AniRanks Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using AniRanks, you confirm that you are at least 13 years of age and have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement. If you are under 18, you represent that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.

To purchase any paid feature described in Section 8, you must be at least 18 years of age, or have the express permission of a parent or legal guardian who accepts responsibility for the purchase and is the holder of the payment method used.

2. Description of Service

AniRanks is a community-driven anime ranking platform. The Service allows users to:

• Vote on curated rankings covering anime, characters, manga, movies, and related categories using a ranked-list format
• Suggest new ranking topics for community consideration
• Upvote suggestions submitted by other users
• Participate in comment discussions on individual rankings, and report comments that break the rules
• Earn points based on community participation and contribution
• Customize a mascot avatar with cosmetic outfits
• Generate an AI Taste Profile summarizing patterns in their ranked picks (Section 6)
• Generate share images of their ranked picks to post elsewhere (Section 5.4)
• View public rankings generated from aggregated community votes

AniRanks integrates with MyAnimeList (myanimelist.net) to provide anime, manga, and movie search functionality, and maintains its own catalog of title and character metadata sourced from MyAnimeList. Your use of MyAnimeList data is also subject to MyAnimeList's own terms and policies.

Some features are released gradually and may not be available to every account at the same time. See Section 11.

3. User Accounts

3.1 Registration

To access most features of the Service, you must register for an account. You agree to provide accurate, complete, and current information during registration, and to keep your account information updated.

3.2 Account Security

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.

3.3 One Account Per Person

You may only maintain one active account. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent restrictions, accumulate points artificially, or otherwise manipulate the platform is strictly prohibited and may result in all associated accounts being terminated.

3.4 Username

Your chosen username must not impersonate another person, contain offensive language, or infringe on any third-party rights. AniRanks reserves the right to require a username change if we deem it necessary.

4. User Conduct

You agree not to use the Service to:

• Post content that is abusive, hateful, harassing, threatening, or discriminatory
• Submit spam, unsolicited messages, or repetitive content
• Attempt to manipulate ranking results, voting counts, or suggestion rankings through artificial means (including the use of bots, scripts, or coordinated inauthentic behavior)
• Upload, transmit, or distribute any malware, viruses, or harmful code
• Scrape or harvest data from the Service without our prior written consent
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service or its infrastructure
• Circumvent rate limits, feature gates, purchase requirements, or moderation systems
• Violate any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation
• Impersonate AniRanks staff, administrators, or other users

AniRanks reserves the right to remove any content and suspend or terminate any account that violates these guidelines, at our sole discretion.

5. User-Generated Content

5.1 Your Content

You retain ownership of any content you submit to AniRanks, including comments, suggestions, and ranking votes. By submitting content, you grant AniRanks a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, display, reproduce, and distribute that content in connection with operating and improving the Service.

5.2 Community Standards

All submitted content must comply with our community standards. Comments and suggestions are subject to moderation, which combines automated screening (Section 6.1) with review by administrators. Administrators may approve, decline, or remove content at their discretion.

5.3 No Endorsement

AniRanks does not endorse any user-submitted content and is not responsible for its accuracy, completeness, or legality.

5.4 Share Images

The Service can generate a share image of a ranking you have voted on. That image includes the ranking title, your picks and their cover art, and your username, and it is stored at a public URL so that social platforms can display it. Anyone with the link can view it. By generating a share image you agree to its publication in this form, and you are responsible for where you choose to post it. Cover art shown in these images belongs to the respective rights holders and is included for identification purposes only.

6. Automated Moderation and AI Features

6.1 Automated Comment Screening

Comments are screened automatically before publication using a third-party AI moderation service and a profanity filter. Automated screening is imperfect: it may block a comment that does not actually violate these Terms, or allow one that does. If your comment is blocked in error, you may contact us. Automated screening does not limit our right to review or remove content manually at any time.

6.2 AI Taste Profile

The AI Taste Profile is an entertainment feature. It is generated by a third-party AI model from the rankings you have voted on, and it may contain inaccurate, incomplete, or unflattering statements. It is not advice of any kind, and no claim it makes about you should be treated as fact. We do not guarantee that any two generations will produce a similar result, that a particular archetype or recommendation will appear, or that the feature will remain available.

Generating a profile is subject to eligibility rules (a minimum number of ranked submissions and a cooldown between generations) that are displayed in the Service and may change. Your generated profile is stored in your account and is visible only to you unless you choose to share it. Section 8.4 applies to profile generations you have paid for.

7. Points and Rewards System

AniRanks operates a community points system. Points are awarded based on participation, including ranking submissions, suggestion approvals, upvotes received, and other activities described on our About page.

• Points have no monetary value, cannot be purchased, and cannot be exchanged for cash
• Points may be redeemed for cosmetic rewards such as avatar outfits, and for other rewards we may offer from time to time
• Points and rewards are tied to your account and may not be sold, transferred, or traded
• AniRanks reserves the right to adjust, modify, or discontinue the points system, and to re-price or withdraw any reward, at any time
• Fraudulent activity aimed at accumulating points artificially will result in account termination and points forfeiture

8. Paid Features and Billing

8.1 Payment Processing

All payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. Card details are entered on Stripe's hosted checkout page and are never received or stored by AniRanks. Your purchase is also subject to Stripe's terms and privacy policy. Prices are stated in US dollars and, unless stated otherwise at checkout, exclude any taxes that may be added at checkout based on your location.

8.2 AniRanks Plus Subscription

AniRanks Plus is an optional recurring subscription that unlocks a bundle of perks described on the Perks page. Unless stated otherwise at checkout, it is billed monthly in advance at the price shown at the time you subscribe.

• Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period, and your payment method is charged, until you cancel
• You may cancel at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period you have already paid for; you keep Plus access until then, and you are not charged again
• We may change subscription pricing or the contents of the Plus bundle. We will give you notice before a price change takes effect, and it will apply from your next billing period. If you do not accept the new price, you may cancel before it takes effect
• If a renewal payment fails, Plus perks may be suspended until payment succeeds

8.3 Perk Credits

Perk credits are one-off purchases that unlock a single use of a specific feature, such as an AI Taste Profile generation, an extra ranking suggestion slot, extra upvote slots, or a pinned comment. Credits are consumed automatically when you use the corresponding feature and your free allowance for that period is exhausted.

• Credits do not expire, but they are tied to your account and may not be sold, transferred, or gifted
• Credits have no monetary value and cannot be exchanged for cash
• Unused credits are forfeited if your account is terminated for a breach of these Terms, and when you delete your account

8.4 Delivery of Digital Content

Paid features are digital content delivered immediately. A perk credit is delivered as soon as your payment is confirmed, and a Taste Profile generation is delivered as soon as the profile is produced. Because AI-generated output varies, paying for a generation buys you one generation attempt, not a particular result. If a generation fails for technical reasons on our side, we will restore the credit or refund it.

9. Refunds and Withdrawal Rights

Outside the statutory rights described below, purchases are non-refundable, and we do not provide partial refunds for a subscription period you have already started. We may still choose to grant a refund on request, at our discretion — for example where a feature did not work as described.

Consumers in the European Union and the United Kingdom normally have 14 days to withdraw from a purchase of digital content. Because paid features here are delivered immediately, you are asked at checkout to consent to immediate performance and acknowledge that you lose the right of withdrawal once the content has been fully delivered. Where that consent has not been given, or where the content has not yet been delivered, the 14-day right applies.

Consumers in Brazil may exercise the seven-day right of regret under Article 49 of the Consumer Protection Code (Código de Defesa do Consumidor) for purchases made online, to the extent that right applies.

Nothing in these Terms limits any mandatory refund or cancellation right you have under the consumer protection law of your country of residence. To request a refund or exercise a withdrawal right, contact us at the address in Section 17.

10. Intellectual Property

The AniRanks name, logo, mascot, avatar outfit artwork, visual design, and original content created by AniRanks are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from these materials without our express written permission, except that you may share the share images the Service generates for you in their unmodified form. Anime titles, character names, cover art, and related media referenced on the platform are the intellectual property of their respective owners. AniRanks claims no ownership over third-party anime intellectual property.

11. Availability and Changes to the Service

AniRanks is under active development. Features may be added, changed, limited to a subset of accounts, or withdrawn, and some are released behind gradual rollouts or offered as previews that may behave unpredictably. We do not guarantee that any particular feature will remain available.

If we permanently discontinue a paid feature you have an active subscription to, we will stop billing you for it. If we permanently discontinue a feature you hold unused credits for, we will refund those credits or offer an equivalent replacement.

12. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. AniRanks does not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components. We make no warranty regarding the accuracy, reliability, or completeness of any content on the platform, including community-generated rankings and votes, third-party title data, and AI-generated output. Nothing in this section excludes any warranty that cannot be excluded under the law applicable to you as a consumer.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, AniRanks and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or ten US dollars. This limitation does not apply to liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including liability for death, personal injury, fraud, or willful misconduct.

14. Termination

You may delete your account at any time. AniRanks reserves the right to suspend or terminate your account and access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, for any reason including but not limited to violation of these Terms.

If you delete your account, any active subscription should be canceled separately before deletion; deleting your account does not by itself refund amounts already paid, and unused credits and points are forfeited. If we terminate your account for a breach of these Terms, you are not entitled to a refund of any amounts paid, except where a refund is required by applicable law. If we terminate your account for reasons unrelated to your conduct, we will refund the unused portion of any prepaid subscription period.

Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (including sections on intellectual property, disclaimer of warranties, and limitation of liability) shall survive.

15. Privacy

Our handling of your personal data is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

16. Modifications to Terms

AniRanks reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify users of material changes by updating the effective date at the top of this document and, where reasonably practicable, by posting a notice within the Service. Your continued use of the Service after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. Changes that affect an active subscription take effect from your next billing period.

17. Governing Law and Contact

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with generally accepted principles of international internet law. For disputes arising in Brazil, the laws of the Federative Republic of Brazil shall apply. For disputes arising in the European Union, applicable EU consumer protection laws shall apply. Nothing in these Terms deprives you of the protection of mandatory consumer law in your country of residence, or of the right to bring proceedings in the courts of that country where such a right applies.
